Other Additional Taxes

Below is a list of additional taxes that are less common. You enter on line 63 of the tax Form 1040 the added total of all taxes discussed in this chapter. You also include on line 63 the following less common additional taxes.

  • Additional tax on HSA distributions (Form 8889)
  • Additional tax on Archer MSA distributions (Form 8853)
  • Additional tax on Medicare Advantage SA distributions (Form 8853)
  • Recapture of investment credit (Form 4255)
  • Recapture of low income housing credit (Form 8611)
  • Recapture of qualified electric vehicle credit (Form 8834)
  • Recapture of Indian employment credit (Form 8845)
  • Recapture of new markets credit (Form 8874)
  • Recapture of employer provided child care facilities credit (Form 8882)
  • Recapture of federal mortgage subsidy (Form 8828)
  • Uncollected social security and Medicare or RRTA tax on tips or group term life insurance. This tax should be shown in box 12 of the W-2 form with a code of A, B, M, or N.
  • Golden parachute payments. This tax should be shown in box 12 of W-2 with the code P.
  • Additional tax on nonqualified deferred compensation plan. This income should be shown in box 12 of the W-2 form with a code Z
  • Tax on accumulation distribution of trusts (Form 4970)
